(Press me to read if you'd like!):

(The app I use tells me how long I drew each thing.)

*Concepting Designs ONLY DURING Jam Period, meaning I should've done this before the jam started = 3 hours (outfits and a hairstyle)
*Backgrounds = 2.5 hours (.5 hours finding images, 2 hours editing)
*Sprites = 45+ hours (............................ Includes sketching, lining, coloring, shading, and their emotes. EMOTES. Don't get me started on implementing them--)
*Sprite and Character Implementation = 24 hours (this is how long it took to test and write the code ONLY to change their expressions in nearly every single line of dialogue, animations, and whatnot.)
*Visual Effects = 3 hours (Leaves, fireflies, fog, and dust)
    *User Interface = 10 hours (3 hours textbox-work, 2 hours jam room-work, 3 hours pocket-work, 2 hours for menu-work)
*Writing = More than two hours every day... So at least 40+ hours (this includes how many times I sat down and ran through the game, cutting double the dialogue you will see in this version.)
*Testing = 20+ hours... I ran through the game from start to finish at least 50 times. I am now unable to tell if my sense of humor is funny.
*Music Composing = 4 hours (for 2 original pieces, hehe)
*Drooling Over Characters = Too much time

Grand Total: Way too much time (full-time 140+ hours)

This does not include making this itch.io game page, editing the game trailer, and promoting/marketing the game. I don't remember how long I spent on those x.x

Ahh, this game was adorable!! <33

I loved the character animations. It made me feel like I was watching a cartoon or something.

Everyone was so nice, and the story was intriguing and warm. I got all achievements too!! It was fun. Thank you for this game. :))

(+1)

Ahhh thank you so much for playing and commenting :'D and congrats on getting all the torture achievements! XD

One of these days I'll get back into making more games, little comments like yours help push me back into considering so <3

(+1)

Fun game with cute characters, i was very immersed so i got sad when it ended 🀭🀭🀭 the various details, from the characters dialogue boxes, to their expressions (and my random favorite, apple's laughing emojis- i guess ibwas caught off guard πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) were appreciated. I tried to find all of the achievements, but i can find the one below "maybe another day", and i replayed the game but i cant find it, is there something i should keep in mind while trying to get it?

Also, congratulations on the third place! πŸ₯°πŸŽ‰πŸŽƒπŸˆπŸ‘»

Aww, thank you super much!!!!! I'm happy to know you got immersed! (Because there might be a sequel, just saying, hehe.) And I too love Apple's use of, well, Apple emojis XD

And for that achievement, it sounds like there should be one more thing you can give Fritz! An item with two variations, perhaps? This last achievement will unlock something, perhaps? :3

Thank you again for playing!!! <3 :D

uwa so adorable

(+1)

This was super adorable! From the cute and quirky character designs to the UI and animated text :3 You can tell a lot of thought and love went into this <3  I'm absolutely in love with your character designs, haha. They're just so sweet and unique.

And yeah, I know it's a little thing, but I'm one of those types of people that loves small details, so the animated text and how frequently you used it really made me smile :3 Also, those character expressions were fantastic :D

The humour was my cup of tea too, and I enjoyed the story :3

And don't even get me started on how jealous I am of the way you've implemented the music player in the jam room, haha. I can only dream of having stuff that fancy in my games x3 I wouldn't even know where to begin to get it setup like that >.< haha. But it looks really wonderfully polished!

(+1)

Ahh thank you!! I'm happy you were able to see those details and loved the designs and the characters' expressions, hehe :3 (Although these things seem small, they took absolute HOURS to implement x.x) But I'm glad it made you smile :3

Also, now that I know what I'm doing, I would be open to helping out with others' games! Like implementing jam rooms and such XD

Again, thank you for playing and for leaving your comments!!! :D <3

(+1)

Oh, don't worry, I could tell that a heck of a lot of work went into the things that might seem small :3 I can imagine it taking hours x3 but it's so worth it for the end result! I love trying to put little details into my projects too, even if people don't always notice them or realise just how much time and effort it took to add them, haha.

And to do it all solo as well is a biiiig workload :3 You did so much with this! It's really impressive ^-^ I hope you're making sure to get some rest now that the submission part of the jam is over! x3

(+2)

WOWWW!!! I enjoyed this too much, and also learned a lot on text effects and character+bg blending ^ Thank you so much for creating this little masterpiece!

You're absolutely welcome, but thank YOU for playing!! And I'm glad you learned something too :D

(1 edit) (+2)

Finally got around to make an account to comment on games ^^

I played all games you made (aside from Cake dream, that one lagged too much to play it on my device, sadly X_X) and enjoyed them a lot. I am always excited when you upload because of the unique vibe your games. It's hard to put my finger on it but it reminds me of old PS Vita VNs (DR1 etc). There's still a lot that feels off at first, for example I think you use a lot of very saturated colors and many details that sometimes make the screen look chaotic in your graphics. But tbh? It kinda grew on me because it adds charme and that retro feelings to your work. Most VNs try to add less and less details and become more minimalistic. It's really hard to come across one that kinda feels like fitting into no mold at all. There's the cutesy aesthetic but dark undertone in your works, so it would make one thing that you probably got inspired by Danganronpa (very visible in your sprites), Zero Escape etc, but your games don't fall into the 'deathgame vn' / survival genre, making it an interesting experience.

Overal I enjoyed this game a lot. It wasn't too long or too short. And it was interesting meeting Kyandi outside her shop (or rather see what she did before that) and seeing what happened to Fritz. I like how your universe is connected.

Things that could be worked on: I must be honest I sadly encountered some bugs that made playing through this a bit annoying. So I stopped playing and picked this back up later X_X Somehow the inventory kept popping up when I tried to skip. There were also a handful of hardpauses that messed with my game (atl got funny) when I tried to skip through the game to get all achievements. It's sad that made it a bit frustrating.

Things that I liked a lot: The ui and atl was a huge step-up from your previous works. The inventory was a clever idea and was fitting for Kyandi. It made the story more lively and visually entertaining. I want to learn how to edit BGs like you so that I don't have to draw that stuff myself when really good photo edits fit into a VN just as much. I also liked the music you composed for this. It's very impressive you made all of this in just one month! O_O

Things that I hope will be added if you make an extra: (SPOILER) It was a bit weird that giving Fritz the items at the end only change a bit of dialogue but didn't really have an influence on the game/ending. I expected that for example getting the tiara at the beginning and giving it to Fritz would have a diffrent effect than giving him the the empty container. It changed a bit of dialogue but the outcome was the same. The inventory was a cool addition but it didn't really serve a purpose aside from using one item to get to the other route/ending. It would have been interesting if I would have to take care of my inventory while playing in order to influence the ending. Maybe that's an idea if you ever update this with the extra scene ; )

That's all for now. EDIT: I tried to rate your game 5 stars but somehow the rate button isn't there : O ?? (it's there for your other games)

Can't wait for the final Aq game ^^

UwaahhhhHHHH SO KIND > < Thank you so much for commenting and sticking around for the games!!!! This is everything I could ask for in a comment, thank you thank you :D

Ahem--

Thank you for your thoughts on the style!!! ("chaotic", eheh oops) XD
But indeed, I was partially inspired by the DR series!!! My art style does seem to replicate it a little, or a lot actually LOL. Although mostly fun, it was SUCH a pain to draw all these detailed-ish sprites for this tiny game in less than a month, so minimalist VNs are understandable x.x (and yesss, learning how to edit BGs is a must!! I admire those who are able to draw them by hand...)

(I have never played/watched the Zero Escape series, but I have heard about it and do want to at some point!)

- If I may ask, what device and OS are you using to play the games?

I'm really sorry that you ran into bugs, I hate insects D: That's what I get for being experimental... I didn't seem to encounter any of these issues. The only hard pauses are at the beginning and end of the game, so that is strange... I must try this again for myself.
- 10 minutes later: I can't replicate it for some reason... Just curious and to clarify, did you find some of the bugs during the first playthrough? It might have to do with the specific moment you saved or the combination of menu buttons you pressed... I made sure to cancel and reset the ATLs after every single movement so this wouldn't happen x.x

- Thank you for attempting to rate the game XD Perhaps we'd have to wait for the Spooktober Jam to end, then you should be able to rate the game itself in the same top-right spot? Or use a different browser? Ah well.

( Pssssst, you can also follow me and others on itch.io to be more updated if you'd like, but no pressure ;D )

That idea for the extra is honestly great!!! :3
But I agree; for the inventory, I only had enough time to implement tiny choices/endings for the whole game and create the pocket system, so it does seem more like a linear VN. I also wanted to add secrets within! <- THAT, however, was too ambitious for the month...

Thank you again for the awesome words!!!!! I really appreciate it, and I wish you a fantastic day :D

(+1)

Aww thank you so much for writing a reply! Ofc I am sticking around for each game you upload. I got really invested in what happens next because you are good at telling stories and you have so much knowledge about the stuff you write about. I know you just make stuff as a hobby and that this is the first game you made basically like 'full time' for a month. And it really shows! It looks much more professional compared to your previous works and with this one I think the little individual works have started connecting to a bigger story. I'm so excited for what's up with Aq in the next game! Your games are super awesome and it's so interesting seeing you get better and better with every game. I can only guess which future upload of yours will suddenly blow up and make the story super popular!

Also I apologise if calling your style 'chaotic' seemed negative Q_Q I don't think it's negative at all, actually I get drawn to stuff that has an aura that feels like it's polished content yet will catch me off-guard. It's hard to describe that style of game. That's why I pulled the DR1 example ^^ I think DR1 might look like a game that makes it hard for you what genre to expect from just the game's style. But once you started playing it you can hardly put it back down!

You should play Zero Escape at some point ^^ I bet it falls right into your alley. Especially Virtue's Last Reward focuses a lot on interactions between characters (trust and distrust) and how to either manipulate others or to be honest with them.

I play the games on my family laptop. It's a very old HP and I rather not download too many games on it. But I downloaded the games that I knew were from creators I can trust, especially Renpy games are fine. Once I had seen the good ending I used the skip button a lot to unlock the achievements, if it helps. I will see if I'm able to replicate the issues I ran into. But it was mostly the inventory popping up at some places where I'm pretty sure that wasn't intended, which might have been due to the ATL issues that I experienced after I used skip. 'Just curious and to clarify, did you find some of the bugs during the first playthrough?' - No, only after I saw the good ending

Oh I figured it out, I just have to rate the game for the jam ^^ I was blind.

You did SO MUCH in just that month! I don't wanna pressure you in adding anything more LOL But if you really intend to expand the game, I am looking forward to what you add to it ^^ Since you already got the character sprites for the three of them, maybe there is a way to add the extra scene without spending too much time on it.

Also pstpst pst....

I think Fritz is a really cool dude. Probably my fav character next to / on the same tierlist as Pippy. Idk if it's due to the exam game that made me feel for him a lot ever since the beginning. I think the pressure of having to succeed in school or you will be marked unsuccessful for the rest of your life is a fear that is universal. I didn't expect him to be a part of the whole (thought the exam game was just a bonus) so it was enjoyable that he was back and that his story was continued ^^ I really hope to see him again soon.

MINT I finally got a chance to play this ahhhhhhhhhh!!  It was such a fun little VN with a cute spooky feel to it!  I love all of the characters!  I'm embarrassed to say it took me a minute to realize that it was Fritz from your other VN!  I was sitting there like "wait a second I think I've met you before...."  But the story was really cute with a nice message and I really did enjoy their interactions!

Oh and I LOVE LOVE your UI!  The aesthetic and the transforms of the screens and the particle effects.  It was so nicely done!!  I took the time just to open and close the pocket system as well as hover over things. Then I was like "oh wait right continuing on" XD  Your use of transforms and screens and such.... it's all so amazing!

!!! SPOILERS? !!!

I really felt bad for Fritz.  I like how you reveal his truth.  And I like all the little hints up to that point that show something is amiss.  And I love the reveal of Kyandi's reason for why she steals.

Also, I am embarrassed to admit that when Apple's silhouette slid in upside down while Kyandi was on her own... I made the weirdest "I'm spooked" noise LOL  But then we met Apple (who was really a sweetie) and all was good.  ^^;

(+1)

Omg I'm really happy you played it!!!!! :D (I honestly wasn't expecting you to, so it was even more of a nice surprise XD)

Thank you!!!! Ahaha, well I'm glad playing with the UI and pocket system was fun XD Making all those screens and transforms were quite an... experience!

Sprinkling foreshadowing and little hints were really fun to pack into this short a story, and I'm glad you liked all of the characters :3

And omg "the weirdest 'I'm spooked' noise" LOLOL I love how you described it XD but I'm glad the game wasn't too spoopy for you to give it a whirl!! (ahhh thanks for playing again > <)

Find and save up for a new PC soon Cho!!! And happy Halloween :D

(+2)

This was really nice VN. Art, colours, UI, effects, all great. Super good job, especially being a solo dev. Well done!

PS double posting this from the game jam page because it really annoys me it doesn't do that automatically.

(+1)

Thank you so much tiger? lazy? lazytiger!! XD

(I appreciate the double post actually! It might help with the algorithm, but idk πŸ€” I also wish it double-posted automatically...)

But again ahhhhhhh, thank you for the kind words and for playing!!!!! Solo development is difficult, so it means a lot :D

(+2)

Oh, gosh, I LOVE this!!! Still haven't been able to get the smile off my face after finishing it. Everything about it is such a TREAT!

First off, the presentation—absolutely gorgeous and just so constantly full of life. I was delighted at the way you handled even something as simple as text—with the various animations and timing that really helped bring their lines to life. And the sprites were so much fun! I loved all their different expressions and poses and how you used dynamic movement and animations to give everything an extremely cinematic feel. The whole package was just incredibly immersive.

The characters themselves—LOVE! Fritz is definitely my favorite. I loved his little pompous attitude and he is just SO CUTE AHHHHHHHHHHH. His expressions won me over in a heartbeat πŸ˜πŸ’• Kyandi was super fun as the protagonist and I really enjoyed learning more about her and her story as the game went on and also seeing her grow even in such a short time. And Apple!! What a cutie. I loved how she used typing to talk—what a cute idea that was executed so well, too!

Love love love the music!! Quirky spoopy tunes ALWAYS get to me. And the BGs—you could barely even tell they were originally photos!! I really loved what you did with them. And guhhhh the little BG effects for when Fritz was on the roof and then Apple was hanging upside down and the EYES and when everything went red dlakfjsldkfjasldkf CREEPY AND DELIGHTFUL!! You did such a good job of utilizing your sprites and movements and BGs and music to create a really fun and dynamic experience.

Just absolutely wonderful all around and a super fun Halloween treat—I loved it so much!!! πŸ’•

(+2)

ALL YOUR COMMENTS ARE SO KIND OMG *I* HAD A SMILE ON MY FACE WHILE READING THIS!!!! πŸ˜†

Anyway, thank you thank you!! You noticed some little things that I honestly didn't expect most to catch, like the punctuation/text timing! And the BGs!!! I'm glad you read somewhere that they were originally photos, someone had thought they were A.I. generated LOL, but it'd be a good idea...

And like you said, I really wanted to make it super dynamic, cinematic, and full of life, something I'm hoping to keep up in future games!!! (Also, I'm THRILLED you loved the characters, especially Fritz XD)

THANK YOU AGAIN πŸ₯•, AND KEEP BEING AWESOME!!! <3

Hi Mint :)

Amazing story, I love it and it is nice to see the link between all your visual novels.

Would be nice to see what happen next for Fritz/Kyandi/Apple

I guess that would setup before the events in the city in Sweety Sweetened Sweets, another visual novel in between perhaps?

Characters and backgrounds are great too as always, the gui too.

Looking forward the next episode πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ§‘

(1 edit) (+2)

Anwynn!!!!!! Hi hi :3

Thank you for playing and liking the story >< I'm really happy you're noticing the links between the games!!!! I do have plans for the trio, I was actually going to write an extra scene before publishing, but the game jam went by really fast πŸ˜… Maybe in the near future!

And you are absolutely right, hehe; it does set up thingies before SSSweets! (I've also thought about making mini-comics to show some of the story, but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself XD)

I can't thank you a million enough for the support ❀️

(+2)

It always take more time than we thought, an extra scene could be nice but it is already great as it is :)

Mini comics sounds a nice idea if you have the time to do them :)
